AvenCentral Area
Profile of The Area
The AvenCentral area covers four electoral wards and is one
of contrasts in terms of social, economic, physical and cultural diversity.
The area encompasses the City Centre (the commercial and administrative
heart of the area), the University of Central Lancashire Campus one
of England's leading universities surrounded by two of the most deprived
and multi cultural wards in the City.
Physically the area is extremely diverse, large Georgian mansions (many
of which form part of the Frenchwood Conservation Area) jostle for space
with late Victorian terraces, whilst the residential area immediately
surrounding the city is a mixture of high rise flats and maisonettes
with other new build being undertaken. The area includes two of the oldest
enclosed parks in the country, the Avenham and Miller Parks, which are
on the National register of, listed spaces. The area is bordered to the
south by the River Ribble to the west by the Riversway Docklands, to
the east by the City Centre ring road and to the North by the central
neighbourhoods of Plungington and Maudland Bank.
The AvenCentral area covers the following surrounding neighbourhoods:
