AvenCentral Area

Profile of The Area
The AvenCentral area covers four electoral wards and is one of contrasts in terms of social, economic, physical and cultural diversity. The area encompasses the City Centre (the commercial and administrative heart of the area), the University of Central Lancashire Campus one of England's leading universities surrounded by two of the most deprived and multi cultural wards in the City.

Physically the area is extremely diverse, large Georgian mansions (many of which form part of the Frenchwood Conservation Area) jostle for space with late Victorian terraces, whilst the residential area immediately surrounding the city is a mixture of high rise flats and maisonettes with other new build being undertaken. The area includes two of the oldest enclosed parks in the country, the Avenham and Miller Parks, which are on the National register of, listed spaces. The area is bordered to the south by the River Ribble to the west by the Riversway Docklands, to the east by the City Centre ring road and to the North by the central neighbourhoods of Plungington and Maudland Bank.
